Three costs owners miss
Chair time
A 90-minute treatment occupies a chair three times longer than a 30-minute cut. If the price isn't three times the time cost, that long treatment blocks the chair from earning. Duration belongs in the maths, not just materials.
Overhead per treatment
Rent and power are paid monthly but must be covered by treatments sold. Rp12 million of overhead across 300 treatments attaches Rp40,000 to each one — a figure that vanishes when prices are set by glancing at the salon next door.
Margin isn't markup
Adding 40% to cost doesn't produce a 40% margin — it produces about 29%. This calculator uses cost / (1 − margin) so your target margin is the one you actually get. Small per treatment, large across a month.

Frequently asked questions
How do I price a salon treatment?
Start with the cost: consumables, plus labour (hourly rate ÷ 60 × duration), plus a share of overhead. With that known, pick your margin and compute price = cost / (1 − margin). Rp60,000 of cost at a 40% margin gives Rp100,000. Only then compare against local market rates.
What margin is reasonable for a salon?
There's no single figure, but services generally support higher margins than reselling goods because the main input is skill and time, not stock. Many salons work in the 40-60% range. What matters isn't the percentage but whether it covers all your fixed costs and still leaves profit once the month's treatments are sold.
Are salons subject to service tax?
Ordinary salon work — cuts, facials, nails — generally isn't subject to regional service tax. But spa, massage, and reflexology fall under PBJT per UU 1/2022 (HKPD), at rates set by each region's Perda, which vary considerably. The tax field here defaults to 0 and you fill it in. Confirm with your Bapenda or local Perda rather than relying on any calculator.
How do I work out labour cost per treatment?
Convert the kapster's cost to an hourly figure, divide by 60, multiply by duration. For a monthly salary, divide by productive working hours — not total opening hours, since quiet spells exist. If the kapster is on commission, that commission per treatment is the labour cost and can go straight in.
The result is far above my competitors — now what?
That's a signal to examine your cost structure, not to start selling at a loss. Possibilities: overhead is heavy for your current volume, treatments run long, or materials could come cheaper elsewhere. Another real possibility: your competitor is losing money without realising. Market price is a signal, not a basis.
