What quietly eats your margin
Markup isn't margin
A 60% markup on Rp50,000 gives Rp80,000 — but the margin is 37.5%, not 60%. Markup is on cost; margin is on price. Swapping them is the commonest way resellers feel richer than they are.
Marketplace fees
Fees come off the SELLING price, not your profit. An 8% fee on Rp90,000 takes Rp7,200 — often a third of a thin margin. It belongs in the maths before you price, not in regret after settlement.
Small per-unit costs
Bubble wrap, boxes, labels, inbound shipping. Each feels trivial; together they run Rp5,000–10,000 a unit. On a Rp20,000 margin that's a quarter of your profit.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is calculated on cost; margin on selling price. Rp50,000 cost with a 60% markup gives Rp80,000 and Rp30,000 profit — but Rp30,000 / Rp80,000 is 37.5%, not 60%. For a true 60% margin the price must be Rp50,000 / 0.4 = Rp125,000. The gap is large, which is why this calculator offers all three methods separately.
How do I calculate skincare profit on a marketplace?
Profit per unit = price − cost − extra costs − (fee% × price). At Rp90,000 price, Rp50,000 cost, Rp5,000 packaging and inbound shipping, 8% fee (Rp7,200): profit is Rp27,800, a net margin near 31%. The fee is what's most often missed, because it's deducted later at settlement.

What margin is reasonable for skincare?
It depends on model and turnover. High-volume resellers can survive on thinner margins; a shop selling fewer units with consultation usually needs more. What matters isn't the percentage but whether it covers your operating costs — rent, salaries, ads — and still leaves profit. A 40% margin sounds fine until ads eat half of it.
Why is my net margin negative when the price is above cost?
Because price above cost isn't enough. Per-unit extras and marketplace fees both cut in, and are usually larger than assumed. A Rp10,000 spread can go negative after Rp5,000 packaging and an 8% fee. The calculator warns when that happens, so you find out before ordering stock.
