Income & Wealth Zakat Calculator

Estimate your income zakat and wealth zakat against the gold nisab at the 2.5% rate. Free, no signup, every calculation runs on your device.

Gold prices move daily, so you need to enter this yourself. Important: BAZNAS sets nisab on 14-karat gold (around Rp1.078.609/gram for 2026), not 24-karat. If you enter a 24-karat (Antam) price, your nisab will be considerably higher and your result may differ from BAZNAS's.

Calculation method

Important note

This calculator is an estimation aid based on the position commonly applied by Indonesian zakat institutions. For a calculation matching your own school of thought or conviction, please consult an official amil zakat body (such as BAZNAS) or a trusted scholar.

Nisab reference: SK Ketua BAZNAS No. 15 Tahun 2026. Checked: 2026-07-15.

Enter the gold price per gram first. Without it the nisab cannot be computed and no obligation can be determined.

The terms you need first

Nisab

Nisab is the minimum wealth at which zakat becomes obligatory. For income and wealth zakat the reference is the equivalent of 85 grams of gold. Below the nisab there is no obligation — though voluntary charity remains encouraged without any threshold.

Haul

Haul is the condition of holding wealth for one full lunar year. It applies to wealth zakat: assets above the nisab but held under a year are not yet zakatable. Income zakat generally does not require haul, as it is paid when the income is received.

The 2.5% rate

The rate for income and wealth zakat is 2.5%, or one-fortieth (1/40), of wealth that has reached the nisab. This figure is widely agreed and underpins the calculations of virtually all zakat institutions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between income zakat and wealth zakat?

Income zakat is taken from regular earnings such as salary, fees, or business revenue, and is paid when the income is received without waiting for haul. Wealth zakat is taken from held assets that have settled — cash, savings, gold, investments — and becomes obligatory only once those assets pass the nisab and have been fully owned for one lunar year. Both are charged at 2.5%. To avoid double counting, income already zakated monthly generally need not be zakated again as wealth at year end.

What are nisab and haul?

Nisab is the minimum wealth at which zakat becomes obligatory, equivalent to 85 grams of gold. Haul is the condition that the wealth has been held for one full lunar year. For wealth zakat both must be met: assets above the nisab but held only six months are not yet zakatable. For income zakat, most Indonesian zakat institutions do not require haul, as it is paid as income is received.

When is income zakat due?

Income zakat is due when the income is received, so it can be paid monthly as soon as your monthly income reaches the monthly nisab. Some prefer to accumulate and pay once a year, which is also permitted so long as the year's total income has reached the annual nisab. What matters is not delaying without reason, since zakat is the right of others attached to your wealth.

What is the 2026 income zakat nisab?

BAZNAS set the 2026 income zakat nisab at Rp91,681,728 per year, or Rp7,640,144 per month, via SK Ketua BAZNAS No. 15 Tahun 2026. It is derived from 85 grams of 14-karat gold using the previous year's average gold price. Note that because BAZNAS uses 14-karat rather than 24-karat gold, its nisab is lower than one computed from pure Antam gold prices. The figure is reset annually, so always check the current one before calculating.

Is the gross or net method correct for income zakat?

Both have grounds and are practised by different groups. The gross method charges 2.5% of total income with no deductions, and is what BAZNAS and most Indonesian zakat institutions currently use. The net method deducts essential living costs and debt instalments first, reasoning that zakat falls on what exceeds basic needs. This calculator offers both and favours neither. For certainty, please ask an official amil zakat body or a scholar you trust.

Pay your zakat through an official amil zakat body

This calculator only helps estimate the amount. Zakat is best channelled through an official body such as BAZNAS or a registered LAZ, so that it is recorded and reaches those entitled to it.
