Why It Matters

Your Google Business Profile is often the first impression — before your website.

When someone types "[type of business] near me" on Google or Maps, the first thing they see isn't your website — it's the Google Business card: name, star rating, review count, photos, and hours. In those seconds, prospects are already comparing you with two or three businesses shown side by side, and often pick whichever looks most convincing.

What makes a profile convincing isn't luck — it's completeness and social proof. A business with hundreds of reviews and a high rating feels safer than one with five. Plenty of clear photos make people feel they know what to expect. A filled-in website, phone, and hours remove the last hesitation before they visit or call.

This tool looks at your profile from a prospect's point of view — using public Google Maps data — then benchmarks it against nearby competitors in the same category. The result is a single score and a list of things you can optimize, so you know where you stand and what makes rivals look stronger.

Learn from common slips

7 common Google Business Profile mistakes

1

Few reviews versus competitors

Review count is one of the strongest forms of social proof. A business that never asks for reviews falls far behind rivals who do — and it shows immediately in search results.

2

No website listed

Many businesses rely on the Maps profile alone. But visitors who want products, prices, or to order often need a website — without one, they move to a rival who has it.

3

Few or low-quality photos

A profile with few photos feels less convincing. Storefront, interior, product, and team photos help prospects picture the experience before arriving.

4

Hours missing or outdated

Customers hesitate to come if they don't know you're open. Wrong holiday hours can even make them show up and leave disappointed.

5

Wrong business category

The primary category decides which searches you appear in. Too general or wrong, and you won't show up when people search for your specific service.

6

Empty phone number

Some customers want to call right away. Without a tappable number on Maps, you lose the contacts most ready to buy.

7

Set once, then abandoned

The profile is treated as done once created. But reviews need responses, photos need adding, and info needs updating — an active profile is trusted more by both Google and customers.

Reading Your Result

You have a score — where do you start?

  1. 1

Start with the red (critical) findings. Usually a missing website or a review count far below competitors — the two that most directly affect a prospect's decision.

  2. 2

Look at the competitor comparison. If your reviews are far fewer, start a consistent review-request program — usually the highest-impact fix.

  3. 3

Fill in the empty basics: website, phone, hours, and category. These are quick and immediately raise profile completeness.

  4. 4

Remember this analysis is based on current public data and can change. Treat it as a priority guide, and if you want a full overhaul, a quick consultation often saves time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this Google Business checker free?

Yes, free. To prevent abuse, each visitor can run up to 5 new checks per day. Re-checking the same business doesn't count because the result comes from a 24-hour cache.

Where does the data come from?

From public Google Maps data via the Google Places API: name, address, phone, website, category, hours, rating, review count, and photo count. For benchmarking, we fetch a few nearby similar businesses and compare their rating and review count.

Why is there no info about 'owner replies' or 'unclaimed profile'?

Because that data isn't available from Google's public API. We deliberately don't show it, to avoid claims we can't verify. We only report what's genuinely visible in public data.

Who are the competitors being compared?

A few same-category businesses within the nearest radius of your location, pulled from Google Maps. The comparison gives a sense of where you stand, not a definitive list of your rivals.

My score is low — what should I do?

Start with the critical findings — usually a missing website and review count. Each finding comes with a recommendation. For a full overhaul, Omset Laris offers Google Business optimization and local SEO; you can consult via WhatsApp.
