Understanding retirement funds

Inflation raises the need

Retirement expenses will be higher than today due to inflation. The calculator first projects your monthly expenses to the retirement year.

Total retirement fund

A simple approach: annual retirement expenses × estimated retirement duration. This is a rough picture of the fund needed at retirement start.

Monthly savings

Worked backward from the target: how much to save/invest each month (with an assumed return) to accumulate by retirement, less funds you already have.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate retirement fund needs?

Project your monthly expenses to the retirement year using inflation, multiply by 12 and the retirement duration for the total. Then compute the monthly savings needed with an assumed investment return.

How much should I save for retirement?

It depends on age, target, and return. The earlier you start, the lighter it is, as compounding works longer. The calculator gives a monthly savings figure per your assumptions.

Why does inflation matter for retirement?

Because money loses value over time. Rp8M of expenses today could equal tens of millions decades ahead. Ignoring inflation makes the target fund too small.

Is BPJS/JHT enough for retirement?

Usually not. JHT/JP help but often don't cover the full retirement lifestyle. A self-funded (invested) retirement fund fills the gap.

Is this result certain?

No. It's an estimate based on the inflation and return you assume. Real investments fluctuate. Review periodically and consider consulting a financial planner.
