Understanding benefit-in-kind tax

Benefits become taxable

Since 2023 (PP 55/2022 & PMK 66/2023), some benefits-in-kind from employers are taxable and add to the employee's taxable income.

Many exceptions

There are many technical exceptions: work-necessity benefits, in certain regions, within certain value limits, and specific types (e.g. food/drink at the workplace) that aren't taxed.

Indicative only

Being complex, this calculator only tags the taxable benefits you select and adds them to income. The result is indicative — verification with a tax advisor/authority is required.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is benefit-in-kind tax?

Natura is compensation in goods (e.g. company car, housing), while kenikmatan is a facility. Since 2023, part of it is taxable and adds to the employee's taxable income.

Which benefits are taxable since 2023?

It depends: some facilities like vehicles, housing, memberships, and recreation can be taxable, with many exceptions (work necessity, value limits, certain regions). So it must be checked per case.

Are all benefits taxable?

No. There's a list of exceptions, e.g. food/drink at the workplace, benefits in certain regions, work necessity, and up to certain value limits. This calculator only counts those you tag as taxable.

How do benefits affect an employee's PPh 21?

Taxable benefit value is added to the employee's gross income, which can raise the PPh 21 base. The calculator gives an indicative estimate of the added tax.

Why must this result be verified?

Because the benefit rules have very many technical exceptions and limits that change per regulation. This calculator is simplified; the final decision must follow official rules and a tax advisor.
