Understanding pro-rata wages

Pro-rata for mid-month join/resign

An employee working less than a full month is paid proportionally to actual days worked. Pro-rata wage = monthly salary × (actual days ÷ total days in month).

Working-day vs calendar basis

Some companies divide by WORKING days (e.g. 22), others by CALENDAR days (30/31). Different methods yield different figures.

Follow the work agreement

The pro-rata method should follow the work agreement or company rule to stay consistent and fair for both sides.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a pro-rata wage?

Pro-rata wage = monthly salary × (actual working days ÷ total days in month). E.g. Rp6M salary, worked 10 of 22 working days → Rp6M × 10/22 ≈ Rp2,727,273.

Working days or calendar days?

It depends on company policy. A working-day basis (e.g. 22) is common for monthly staff; a calendar basis (30/31) is also used. Pick the method matching your work agreement.

Are allowances also pro-rated?

Fixed allowances generally are pro-rated with basic salary, while attendance-based allowances (e.g. meal money) follow days present. Details follow company policy.

What about an employee resigning mid-month?

Same: count actual working days up to the last date, then pro-rate the monthly salary. This calculator uses the actual days and the divisor you set.

Does pro-rata affect BPJS and tax?

BPJS and PPh 21 are generally computed from wages paid that month. Since the pro-rata wage is smaller, deductions adjust accordingly. Consult payroll for details.
