Understanding profit sharing
Percentage-based
Each party gets a share per an agreed percentage. All shares must total 100%. Suitable when the split isn't purely by capital.
Capital-based
Profit is split proportionally to each party's capital contribution. A larger capital contributor gets a larger profit share.
Sharia scheme
Mudharabah/musyarakah split PROFIT per an agreed ratio between the capital provider and manager. For mudharabah, financial loss is borne by the capital provider (unless the manager is negligent).
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate profit sharing?
Choose a method: percentage (each party a % share, total 100%), capital proportion (split by capital contribution), or sharia (provider-manager ratio). The calculator computes each party's amount from total profit.
What is a mudharabah profit-sharing ratio (nisbah)?
The nisbah is the ratio for splitting PROFIT (not capital) between the capital provider (shahibul maal) and manager (mudharib), agreed upfront, e.g. 60:40. It applies to the profit actually earned.
What if the business loses money in a sharia scheme?
In mudharabah, financial loss is borne by the capital provider, while the manager bears the loss of effort and time — unless the loss is due to the manager's negligence. In musyarakah, loss is borne by capital share.
What's the difference between percent- and capital-based sharing?
Percent-based uses freely agreed figures (must total 100%). Capital-based computes shares automatically from each party's capital. Choose per your partnership agreement.
Is a written agreement necessary?
Highly advised. A written agreement clarifies shares, how profit is computed, loss handling, and distribution periods — reducing disputes among partners. For sharia schemes, consult an expert if needed.
