How to read
Positive net working capital means current assets cover current liabilities. A current ratio ≥ 1.5 is generally healthy, but industry context varies.

Understanding working capital
Net working capital
Current assets minus current liabilities. It shows how much short-term funding is available to run daily operations after covering short-term debt.
Current ratio
Current assets ÷ current liabilities. A ratio ≥ 1 means current assets cover current liabilities; ≥ 1.5 is generally healthy, depending on industry.
Cash cycle
Days inventory + days receivable − days payable. The longer the cycle, the more working capital is 'trapped' in stock and receivables before returning to cash.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate working capital?
Net working capital = current assets − current liabilities. E.g. current assets Rp150M and current liabilities Rp80M → net working capital Rp70M.
What is the current ratio?
Current assets divided by current liabilities. A ratio of 1.5 means current assets are 1.5× current liabilities — a fairly good short-term liquidity signal in many industries.
How do I estimate the working-capital need?
Compute the cash cycle (days inventory + days receivable − days payable), then multiply by daily operating cost. The longer the cycle, the more working capital needed.
Is negative working capital dangerous?
It generally warrants caution as current liabilities exceed current assets. But some very fast-turnover models can run on low/negative working capital. Context matters.
How can I improve working capital?
Speed up receivables collection, manage stock to avoid excess, negotiate longer supplier terms, or add capital. Test the impact by changing the numbers.
