Understanding tiered discounts
Applied sequentially
Tiered discounts are computed one by one, not summed. 50% then 20% means: reduce the price by 50%, then reduce the remainder by another 20%.
Effective discount
The real total reduction as a percent of the original price. 50% + 20% gives a 60% effective discount, not 70% — because the second discount is off an already-smaller price.
VAT after discount
When applicable, VAT is computed from the post-discount price, not the original. The calculator separates the discounted price, VAT, and final price.

How do I calculate tiered discounts?
Apply each discount in sequence. Rp1,000,000 with 50% → Rp500,000, then +20% → Rp400,000. Total savings Rp600,000, effective discount 60%.
Is 50% + 20% the same as 70%?
No. Tiered 50% + 20% gives a 60% effective discount, because the 20% is off the remainder after the 50%. For a true 70%, you'd need a single 70% discount.
How do I compute a simple percent discount?
Multiply the price by the discount percent for the reduction, then subtract. E.g. Rp1,000,000 at 30% → Rp300,000 off, final Rp700,000. Enter just one discount.
When is VAT computed in the discount?
VAT, if applicable, is computed after the discount is applied. Fill the VAT field to see the final price with tax. Note restaurant meals use a local tax, not VAT.
Can this handle many discount tiers?
