How to calculate roof needs
Sloped roof is larger than the plan
Because the roof slopes, the real area is larger than the plan area (seen from above). Sloped area = flat area ÷ cos(angle). The steeper the roof, the bigger the difference — and the more material needed.
Pitch matches the covering
Clay and concrete tiles need enough pitch (typically 30–35°) to keep water out, while metal roofing can be flatter. Pick the angle to suit your covering type.
C-channel, battens, and tiles
The calculator estimates C-channel bars (main frame), battens (tile support), and tile count from coefficients per m² of sloped roof. All coefficients are adjustable to your frame system.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate sloped roof area?
Sloped roof area = flat roof area ÷ cos(pitch angle). For example, 60 m² flat area at 30° pitch gives about 69 m² sloped. The calculator works this out automatically once you enter flat area and angle.
What's the ideal roof pitch for tiles?
For clay or concrete tiles, an ideal pitch is generally 30–35° so rainwater flows well and doesn't seep. Metal roofing can be flatter (15–25°). Match the calculator's angle to your covering type.
How many tiles are needed per square meter?
It depends on type: concrete tiles about 11 pcs/m², clay tiles about 14 pcs/m², while metal roofing is counted per sheet by effective area. This is per m² of SLOPED roof, not flat, and editable under Advanced Settings.
Are screws and accessories included?
No. This calculator focuses on C-channel bars, battens, and tile count. Screws, dynabolts, gutters, and other accessories are calculated separately as they depend heavily on your roof system and details.
Is this enough to order materials?
It's a good early estimate for cost and volume. For final ordering, verify against the roof frame drawings (trusses, batten spacing, valleys) — the Luxury Art team can help build a precise roof BoQ.
