Stone Foundation Requirement Calculator

Calculate stone foundation volume and stone, sand, and cement needs from length and cross-section. Free, with adjustable coefficients.

Cross-section (trapezoid)
Advanced — coefficients per m³

Typical values for stone foundation with 1:5 mortar; adjust as needed.

Prices (optional)

Important — this is an estimate

Estimate based on standard coefficients; real needs depend on specification, work method, and field conditions. For an accurate BoQ, consult Luxury Art.

Coefficients reference SNI AHSP (typical values, adjustable).

Foundation requirement

Foundation volume10,8 m³
Rubble stone13,0 m³
Sand5,4 m³
Cement37 bags

Estimated stone-foundation material quantities; the correct foundation type & dimensions must follow an engineer's calculation per soil condition and load.

How to calculate foundation needs

Trapezoid section × length

A continuous stone foundation is trapezoidal (bottom wider than top). Volume = trapezoid section area × total foundation length. Trapezoid area = (top width + bottom width) ÷ 2 × height.

Stone, sand, and cement

From the foundation volume, the calculator estimates rubble stone (m³), sand (m³), and cement (bags) for the laying mortar. Default coefficients follow stone masonry with a 1:5 mortar.

Dimensions & type = an engineer's domain

This calculator computes material quantities for the dimensions you set. Determining the right foundation type and dimensions depends on soil condition and building load — that must be calculated by an engineer, not a calculator.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate stone foundation volume?

Volume = section area × total foundation length. For a trapezoid section, area = (top width + bottom width) ÷ 2 × height. Example: top 0.3 m, bottom 0.6 m, height 0.6 m → area 0.27 m²; times 40 m length → 10.8 m³.

How much stone, sand, cement per m³ of foundation?

As a general guide, per m³ of stone foundation masonry you need about 1.2 m³ rubble stone, 0.5 m³ sand, and cement per the mortar (default ~136 kg/m³). All these coefficients are adjustable under Advanced Settings.

Why is the bottom wider than the top?

The trapezoid shape (widening downward) helps spread the building load onto a larger soil area, reducing soil pressure. The exact proportions are set by a structural designer per the soil's bearing capacity.

Does this calculator determine if my foundation is safe?

No. This calculator only computes material QUANTITY for the dimensions you enter. Determining whether the foundation is strong enough and suited to the soil is a structural engineer's job — don't build a foundation based on the calculator alone.

Are excavation and working floor included?

No. This calculator focuses on stone masonry material. Excavation, sand bedding under the foundation, and the working floor (aanstamping) are calculated separately in the BoQ. The Luxury Art team can help build a complete one.
